Thank you Taylor Swift, dark chocolate, art, and...my dad.
It was a Saturday night, home with my dad, and I was plain old bummed out. I had constant tears behind my eyeballs, spitting out a few, every-once-in-a-while, for "no reason". My voice was shaky; my body language droopy. Some dads, in this situation, might just freeze up and have no clue what to do. Not this dad. He turned on Taylor Swift, set out two pieces of dark chocolate, and together, we did art. We therapeutically filled our ceramic tiles with concreted pottery on them, with grout. That's it! We filled and pulled, and smoothed, and waited, and did it all over again. I ended up with a night where instead of complaining, I created; where instead of crying, I was calm.
Thank you Taylor Swift, dark chocolate, art, and...my dad.

I've thought about the DR so much since we left. It's been almost a month and a half now...so I thought it'd be a good time to share some of the things I miss:
-Being able to roll out of bed, throw on clothes and put my hair up, and I was ready for the day. -Tormenta perking up when I opened my door, and running across the courtyard with her tail wagging, to say "good-morning". -Showering while looking out the window (Hey! It's freeing, okay?) -Being part of the team that gets to tell a family they will have a new house. -Seeing all the neighbors get excited when we drive up to visit a family who we built a house for. -YWAM (there truly is nothing like it) -Hearing Joe speak Spanish (how quickly he learned!) -Rafaelito and Stefany's constant happiness and willingness. -The "oohs and ahhs" from the family when I cooked something quite colorful. -Watching Mitch and Joe play basketball (and seeing Rafael get so excited and blow his little horn). -Kiki's laugh when Joe and Rafaelito would put her in her car seat, and she'd go on a "rollercoaster" ride. -How excited Johally would get when she, Danae and I got to go out, just us girls. -Seeing Malcolm turn red when we grilled him on his love life. -Beach days with Joe. -Danny squealing, "I LOVE cooking for you guys." -Having Joe's support in my kickboxing classes. -Danae's hysterical laughter, that was contagious. -ALL the sweet faces from El Tanque, the Haitian Community. -The all-of-a-sudden rain storm, or the shocking double rainbow in the sky. -The knowledge that God had called us there, for... "such a time as this". |
