We walked around downtown Cusco, passing out wrapped goodies of Christmas breads and cookies to the people on the streets. Although we had wrapped up lots of packages, we quickly ran out.
I was encouraged, however, by the joy that just a little package of gummy treats brought one little boy. I felt a mix of sadness and encouragement by the smile on an elderly man's face as he received our bag of Christmas bread, saying "Ahh, thank you! I haven't eaten today." We also saw a family in a white car pull up, open the trunk, and begin to pass out clothing to the Quechuan beggars on one of the most touristy streets in Cusco.
While we continue to celebrate the holidays and ring in the New Year, take a moment to do something (even small) for the people in need around you.
